Walled gardens have existed in country homes for centuries, the enclosing mellow brick walls providing privacy and creating a microclimate in which to grow fruit and vegetables.
Today these walled spaces have been put to a variety of uses. While some retain their original purpose, others have been turned into allotments or provide the perfect setting for a swimming pool. Some walled gardens even have separate houses built in them.
